robv.jpgThe Executive Committee of Mission Central’s Board of Managers is pleased to announce that the Rev Rob Visscher has been selected as our new Executive Director effective October 1, 2010.

Rob comes to Mission Central from Greentown, PA (near Scanton, PA) where he has been serving as Pastor of the Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church.  He is being appointed to Mission Central by Bishop Middleton as an extension ministry appointment.

We are pleased to welcome Rob to this very important  leadership position. He combines a strong background and skills learned  in the private sector, tenure as a classroom instructor, and a decade of leading congregations;  matched by his personal passion and experience in mission work.  He joins an experienced team of non-profit professionals that have been helping Mission Central meet the demands of exponential  growth this year that has been fueled by the demands of a worldwide recession and natural disasters.

Originally from Binghamton, NY Rob was raised on a farm in  the Finger Lakes region of NY. After graduation from high school, he served a full term of service in the US Navy.  He completed undergraduate work in Business and Distributive Education from Buffalo State College in 1995. During this period he worked for a local county office and a software firm.  After teaching for four years, he answered the call that he had been receiving and enrolled in seminary at Drew University. He has been serving as a pastor in the former Wyoming Conference since 2000.

He and his wife Carol (a social worker)  have two children, Spencer 13  and Blake 10. The family will relocate during this period to the Mechanicsburg area.

Rob had been appointed as a district representative to the Board of Managers, representing  the Scranton District, in 2009 in anticipation of the formation of the new Susquehanna Conference this year.  He requested and was granted a leave of absence from the Board in order to pursue his candidacy for the Executive Director position when the position was declared vacant.

We ask that you keep Rob and his family, the staff and the thousands of volunteers at Mission Central in your prayers as we continue to live into the mission that God is calling us to serve.

George Sackandy, President
Mission Central Board of Managers
